bubble birthday party ideas and decorations

happy bubble birthday party to my little boy patton! recently my little man turned 3 and i threw him a bubble birthday party! i can hardly believe he is 3!! as you know, i am about to release my book, am working franticaly on my second book, and patton’s party was scheduled for RIGHT when we got back from our colorado trip!  i could barely find time to shower and was working like mad woman to get this party done! i pretty much pulled this together in 4 days – so you can trust me when i say that almost all of these ideas are easy, last minute, diy, and budget friendly ideas using materials and ingredients that you can easily find! as usual…. i took a MILLION pictures. so i’m going to break this up into two posts – first the dessert table and decorations followed by the activities and games in the second post. a special thanks to Jelly Belly® for being a sponsor of patton’s party!

decorations and backdrop — i used a foam core board (largest and cheapest i have found is at hobby lobby) covered in BUBBLE WRAP. yep thats right. its a bubble party isn’t it? i added a few extra bubbles using crafting paper from Michaels and cut circles of various sizes using my cricut machine. i used the adorable bubble collection printable banner that swish printables designed for patton’s party. i framed it with some cute balloons and used my favorite all time party supply — plastic $1 tablecloths -to block out the wall behind. i also bought a bunch of large bouncy balls for the kids to play with (note – after about 5 kids arrived i realized that the balls would have to go outside lol…. we almost had the whole dessert table taken out!)

sweets and treats
cake — i don’t think i have hosted a party without a traylor made cake! she is the best! this was a carrot cake with coconut mousse. um – it. was. amazing.
cupcakes — my little guy has allergies so i made the cupcakes for the kids – he was SO excited that he had a cupcake that was ‘safe’ for him! i cried when i saw how excited he was! they were topped with Jelly Belly® jewel collection (vegan!) note: for you allergy folks i used the sprite cake weight watchers recipe with duncan heinz frosting.
dipped marshmallows — white candy melts and blue nonpareils
layered jello — recipe coming soon – this is a dairy free coconut milk and berry layered jello
blueberries — TIP – blueberries are expensive and those little cups hold more than you realize! i filled the bottom with grapes and then topped them off with blueberries
jelly beans — first, these are Jelly Belly®- the BEST in the world. and they are from their new collection – the jewel collection. they are SO pretty. i hope i was able to capture how shimmery and stunning they were! can’t wait to use these in all of my parties. i used them to top the kids cupcakes (they are vegan and safe for my little guy!), in the favor bags, and in bowls for snacking.
favor bags — i got the favor bags from Michaels  – they are ArtMinds bags. i love them because they are narrow enough to provide a layered candy look without using tons of jelly beans, but wide enough at the bottom to stand upright – they are my new fav thing!

  1. Honey, you blow me away!!!! If this is the standard when you’re pushed for time…In AWE of the creativity once again! Like the jelly baby party, I think you’re in your element and even more creative and inventive when you’re working on your books! ;D
    Lots of ♥

    • aw thanks!! i think you are right – neccessity and crunch time are the birthplace of creativity for me! lol!

  2. Great job. I love that he was so happy to have a cupcake (I totally know that feeling with my kiddos).

    • carli – i know! i still can’t believe our kiddos have the SAME crazy allergies! it was the sweetest thing ever… i need to make him cupcakes more often! jelly belly is the best too!

  3. Adorable, Mindy!!! You did such a fabulous job… never would have known you had pulled it all together in a mere four days! Love the color combo and the theme. Can’t wait to see the activities! P.S. The pic of you holding Patton’s cupcake is the cutest… and, of course, the kiddos! ♥

    • thanks lynlee!!! I totally was about to cry … i think in the next photo i was! he just never gets to eat cupcakes because of his allergies! i usually give him oreos and he is good with that – never complains. but when he saw he could have a cupcake his whole face lit up!

  4. Aaaaawww!!!! I love it! I love the backdrop, I love the big balloons and the smile on your son’s face says it all – YOU GO MAMA!

    • Keisha thank you so much! he is SO hard to take pictures of usually – he never smiles or looks at the camera! i think that is why i am sharing so many photos of him in this post – he was SO smiley that day! xo

  5. SO adorable, mindy! great job. wow, what a time crunch! and as cute as it is, nothing tops that great feeling of them being able to eat their birthday treats.

    • it seriously is the best! it made me feel horrible i have not made them before now though! i decided i’m going to bake some and keep them frozen and suprise him every now and then. it was such a special moment – i know you understand!

  6. Felicity Ditchburn says:

You have done it again !!!! Love love it all! Can’t wait to see part two!
    Felicity x

  7. Super cute and fun!! I love all the pretty shades of blue (my favorite color!), and the pics of your little kiddos are super sweet! All the details work together beautifully!

  8. This looks incredible! And lovely photos. Those cupcakes look amazing. Looks like everybody had a great birthday party.

  9. A simply adorable party. You seriously did this all in a few days? Wow! I love all the details….the dessert table looked so yummy. Those pearly jelly beans that you used are just gorgeous too!

  10. Have you posted the recipe for the layered jello yet?

  11. Hello, love love your party ideas! I have been trying to figure out a way to make foam backdrops. Also, can you explain how they stand up? Are they attached to the table some kind of way?

  12. So wonderful! Kids are lucky to have such a wonderful mama! Your talent never ceases to amaze me!

  13. Have you posted the receipt to make the layered jello cups?
