if you dont know by now that i love french macarons… well i’m not sure where you have been! between the book i wrote, macaron mondays, and all of the macaron designs and recipes i have shared – its no wonder that i decided to make french macaron ornaments for my christmas tree! how cute are they? here is the full tutorial on how i made them – you could make them using polymer clay like i did for ornaments or use this same tutorial and make them with fondant for a cake or cupcakes. either way this tutorial is simple and makes the cutest ever french macaron ornaments! WARNING: when i really like something… i take a ridiculous number of pictures of it….

start by rolling your clay or fondant into a thin even layer. use a small scalloped cookie cutter to cut a circle. remove from the excess and use a toothpick or skewer to poke holes around the scalloped edge. this will be the ‘foot’ of the macaron.

roll a second layer of clay or fondant that is twice the thickness as the scalloped circle and just slightly smaller. use your fingers to round the edges so they slope up gradually. place this on top of the scalloped circle and press them gently together.

repeat this process so that you have two macaron shells. cut a circle that is the color of the ‘filling’ – in this case i used white to represent vanilla buttercream. this layer should be about the same thickness as the scalloped circle. place the filling in the middle of the shells and press them gently together.

insert a metal eye ( i found this one at my craft store in the jewelry section ) into the filling. this will be where the ornament hook will attach

place the finished french macaron ornaments onto  parchment paper and bake acording to your clay directions. once they have cooled from the oven, place an ornament hook through the eye and hang on your tree! how cute is this?!! seriously. i love these little things.
