Healthy & easy Avocado Banana Smoothie Recipe

this healthy and easy avocado banana smoothie recipe is one of my kids favorites! if you have not had an avocado smoothie i know what you are thinking. and YES you can taste the avocado. personally, i like that but i’m okay with the fact that its not for everyone. i have tried a LOT of different tweaks to this recipe so if you make it, and are a little unsure about it – that is probably cause avocado smoothies just are not your thing. i have found that even some people who like avocados don’t love the smoothies (but that’s okay. i have 11 other amazing avocado recipes you can try)… it probably sounds like i’m convincing you not to like it! hopefully that is not the case – i just want you to have an open mind. drinking an avocado is a bit of a mind trip for newbies.

ps. if you use a lot of avocados in your life, you NEED this avocado slicer. its my fav.

most all of my smoothies start the same way – with a ripe pear (quartered, cored, and skin on) and the liquid. if i am making it for my son, i avoid dairy (due to his allergy) and use soymilk or coconut milk. this recipe is one that i make for my daughter and myself so i am using milk and Carnation Breakfast Essentials from safeway. its an easy way on busy mornings to pack in 21 extra vitamins and nutrients and 13g of protein into our smoothies. combine the pear, milk, Carnation packet, and if you like a handful of spinach (you won’t be able to taste it really) into a blender and blend on high until the mixture is smooth. then add the avocado (sliced with your new cool tool), banana, ice, and pineapple (frozen or fresh) and blend until smooth. you may have to add a bit more liquid to make it your desired thickness (this recipe is on the thicker side)

Ingredients
  • 1 pear (quartered & cored)
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 1 packet French Vanilla Carnation Breakfast Essentials
  • ½ cup spinach (optional)
  • ½ banana
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 cup pineapple (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup ice
Instructions
  1. In a blender, combine pear, milk, Carnation Breakfast Essential powder, and spinach (optional). Blend until smooth.
  2. Add the banana, avocado and pineapple and blend until smooth.
  3. Finally, add the ice and blend until smooth. Add more ice to desired temperature and add more milk to desired thickness.
  4. Pour into tall glasses and enjoy! (fills about two 8 oz. glasses)
  5. NOTE: for non-dairy version, substitute milk and Carnation Breakfast Essentials for 1½ cups of soy or coconut milk
