since mother’s day is just around the corner, i thought it would be fun to show you how i make layered candy filled vases with flowers so you can upgrade your traditional flower vase easily and impress your moms! i’m sure you have seen these beautiful displays with a candy filled vase and wondered how the heck those flowers are staying alive! its actually a pretty simple trick! i wanted to play off the beautiful yellow and pink roses and do a layered candy effect on the vase using alternating colors of jelly beans. i am using pineapple jelly belly beans, coconut jelly belly beans, and bubble gum jelly belly beans (from the jewel collection). they make a beautiful centerpiece for any occasion or holiday just by swapping out the flowers and the color jelly beans!

How to create a candy vase with flowers

to start your candy filled vase with flowers you will need two containers – a large clear vase and a smaller vase or cup that can fit inside and still leave room between the two rims (to fit the candy). the amount of jelly beans will be determined by the size of your containers. for this vase i used about 2 cups of each color. place the smaller container inside of the lager vase centered in the middle.

start with the color jelly bean you will want at the bottom and add until you have the desired thickness of that layer. i recommend holding the center container still while you do the first few layers so that it stays centered and candy does not get underneath. alternate between colors to get different layers.

when you have filled the exterior space between the containers add water carefully to the center cup. place the flowers into the center cup and there you go! simple and beautiful!

  4. Hi I think this is adorable for a baby shower, I ‘m giving my daughter one at the end of this month and this goes along perfect with the candy theme Im doing. How much candy in one vase? This way I can approximate how much candy to buy.

    Thanks Olga

  5. Where did you find thise plastic cups for the middle of the vase?

    • I’m not sure where exactly I got this one, but it is very similar to the generic large clear plastic cups I see at the grocery store!
