Three Cheers for Lucky Charms

every time my family gets together we bring out the old childhood embarrassing stories. my hubby always jokes that we have a rotating 10-15 stories that get re-told at every gathering and we all laugh like it was the first time we had ever heard it…. and he is right! its pretty much our favorite part of getting together. there was the time that my sister and i made a fort and ate a whole loaf of bread as our ‘camp food’, the time my sister feel asleep at the dinner table and almost drowned in her soup (always a favorite), the epic monopoly game that got it banned from our household for life, and then the the long list of naughty things my brother did… cooking ‘strawberry soup’ on the stove at 2 am as a 4 year old… putting hot glue in my mom’s curling iron… lining up his plastic play people to melt to death in the oven next time my mom cooked… i’m not gonna lie – we have some good ones!

as for me – my embarrassing stories always revolve around how i ate my food as a kid. look… i was a weirdo. i ate my food abnormally. i ate my pizza in layers (toppings, then cheese, then i would lick the sauce off, then i would eat the crust). i ate pickles by biting off everything until there was just the skin left… and i would chew on it like bubble gum for an hour afterward. like i said… i was weird. so it is probably no surprise that i ate my cereal systematically. and my favorite? you bet it was lucky charms. that is like a field day for a systematic eater! i would eat all the cereal and leave the marshmallows. then i would divide up each shape marshmallow to a different area of the bowl and eat them one section at a time. still to this day – i eat all the cereal and leave the marshmallows until the end. its my favorite.

i have two kids and cereal is one of our go-to for breakfast each morning. their favorites are Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch (another childhood favorite), Honey Nut Cheerios, and of COURSE Lucky Charms from WINCO – and you know WHAT?! the apple didn’t fall far from the tree my friends. my daughter eats all the cereal first and leaves the marshmallows for the end and my son does the opposite! the only logical conclusion: systematic eating is inherited. right?!

we shopped for these cereals at WinCo with the Ibotta app – have you heard of it? its free on your mobile phone & its a great app where you get cash rewards for shopping certain items- i just started using it and its really cool! this week (and each week until 5/25) General Mills cereal has a cereal of the week at WinCo that you can redeem for $1.50! if you buy 5 then you can redeem and additional $2.50! cereals include Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Chocolate Toast Crunch, Golden Grahams, Dark Chocolate Multigrain Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Fiber One Protein, and of course my favorite – Lucky Chams. you can get more information by visiting Ibotta’s blog here.

what i REALLY want to know is — do YOU eat your Lucky Charms like this too?! what was your favorite cereal growing up?! comment below to enter to win a $50 gift card to WINCO!

I thought I was the only person that did that! Lol I also, don’t be weirded out, pour fruit loops and eat them in “roygbiv” order. Why? Not sure, just happens. Let’s just say I’m always the last one to finish my cereal.

  2. That is so funny! I never my cereal like that, but I couldn’t have too much milk it in…once it got mushy, I was done! To this day, I eat my food in a pattern. I don’t like it to touch; I’m overjoyed if I get a Styrofoam plate with the dividers! I don’t have kids yet, but I will feel a little badly for my hubby when we do…LOL

  3. Oh man I have a lot of food oddities, ESP with cereal. For lucky charms I eat them dry, no milk, mallows first then cereal. My kids only like it dry too, big surprise. But the weirdest thing I do that my husband can’t understand is eat cereal with milk in a mug. That way it gets completely soaked in milk, even soggy sometimes. Grosses most people out I know. My sisters all do the same!!!

  4. I never thought to eat them that way but my favorite cereal as a child and still now is cinnamon toast crunch 😀
