Holiday Cracker Toffee Bark With Chocolate and Almonds

Toffee Bark - Cracker, chocolate, almond, pretzel break apart bark

often called ‘holiday crack’ this recipe for cracker toffee bark would qualify for that title. i used my grandma’s cracker toffee recipe and jazzed it up a bit with pretzels and almonds to add more on the salty side to this salty -sweet combo.  if you have not made this before – you are in for a serious treat. i highly recommend giving this away as a gift for friends and neighbors as QUICKLY as possible or you may just eat the whole dang batch…. i’m not saying i have done that before… but i’m not saying i haven’t…..

the exact recipe is below but start by lining your cookie sheet pan with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray. line your sheet pan with a sleeve of saltine crackers (usually 40) and then top with pretzels. boil butter and brown sugar for 3 minutes. pour over the top of the crackers and then bake in the oven for 5 minutes. while still hot, top with chocolate chips. the residual heat will melt the chocolate and you will be able to spread it evenly over the toffee. while still warm, top with almonds. allow to cool and then break apart into squares.

now be WARNED. there are three ways you can really mess these up.

1. when boiling butter and sugar be sure to boil for exactly 3 minutes! set your timer so it doesn’t burn!

2. when baking – the 5 min marker is a guide because your oven may run hot. be careful not to burn this or it will be bitter and hooooooorible.

3. DO NOT SNEAK a bite until it is totally COOLED!! this is my grandmother’s recipe and she always tells the story of when she had a bite too early and ripped a crown right off her tooth!
