Corn Fritters With Cheese And A Guava Pineapple Sauce

Corn Fritters with Cheese and a Guava Pineapple Dipping Sauce that you will LOVE!

Growing up with Latino roots has given me a great deal of appreciation for simple, yet tasty food combinations. This is one of my favorites! My mother would make these little treats of corn goodness called “Sorullitos de Maíz” otherwise known as Corn Fritters. They are very easy to make! All you need is a few ingredients, most you may already have in your cabinets!

Delicious Corn Fritters with Cheese and a guava pineapple sauce
Recipe type: Snack
Cuisine: Latin
Serves: 6-8
Corn Fritters with cheese served with a guava pineapple dipping sauce
  • Corn Fritter:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 ½ cup cornmeal ( I prefer the Goya Brand)
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ cup of canola oil for frying
  • 4 slices of white American Cheese
  • Guava Pineapple Dipping Sauce:
  • 5 tablespoons of Goya Guava in tin
  • 3 tablespoons of crushed pineapple ( you can find this in a can too!)
  1. Heat water in pan. Mix, water, milk, sugar and salt in a medium bowl mix well.
  2. Once the mixture is at a medium boil, slowly add the corn flour. Mix as you pour so as to prevent a lumpy dough.
  3. Once cooked, place dough in another bowl and hands form cylinders. Create a small well in it to place a piece of cheese and then cover with dough thoroughly so that the cheese isn't exposed.
  4. In a separate pan, heat oil in deep pan and once hot, fry until golden brown.
  5. To prepare your Guava Pineapple Sauce:
  6. In a small sauce pan, on medium heat, add your guava and pineapple. It will melt as you stir. Once completely rendered down to a sauce, pour into a small ramekin for dipping. CAUTION: This will be hot. Let it stand for at least 15 minutes before dipping.
Goya Corn Flour
Goya pasta de guayaba ( Guava Paste)

This is going to be very sweet and serve as an awesome contrast to the saltiness of the corn fritter and cheese! YUM! Buen Provecho!
