What I want to be when I grow up - Free printable for kids

“what do you want to be when you grow up?”

a classic question for kids that seems to spark either an over serious answer (i.e. a cute young lad with a real determination to fight crime as a police officer) or a ridiculous one – like what i wanted to be… a professional typewriter. like the MACHINE. no the person who USES the machine as you might think. but i was in good company. my sister wanted to be a professional cheerleader. at least we wanted to be professional. no amateurs at the boyce household. no sir. we had standards.

i have always loved hearing what my own kids wanted to be. my favorite in this ever changing stream of answers has been from my daughter aubrey. when she realized her dad was a dentist she wanted to be one too. but not just any old dentist. a ROCKSTAR DENTIST. now before you assume what i did the first time she said it – that she would be the best dentist ever – let me clarify. at this time she was also into the barbie movie ‘princess and the pop star’. so CLEARLY (she explained as she rolled her eyes at me) she would be a dentist who was ALSO a rockstar.

currently patton wants to be a bat when he grows up….so there’s that. #aubreyforthewin

most recently aubrey has settled on being a fashion designer. remember the fashion plates toy?! she loves that thing! but a REAL fashion designer would have a sewing machine of course. aubrey had been begging for months, so santa was sure to bring one this chirstmas (appropriately so, santa was worried this could just be a phase so he was sure to not over invest with a top of the line machine). and NOW my budding little ‘fashin desiner’ has completed her fist ever sewing project! i’m so proud of her. she has slept with it every night since completion – its an adorable stuffed owl.

i think it is really important to set goals with your kids– recognizing their dreams (despite how fleeting they may be at this age) comes with dedication and vision. its wonderful to want to be a dentist – but lets talk about what that will take! its great to want to be a football star – but we should be talking to our kids about what kinds of things will be in their future should they choose that path! no matter what they aspire to achieve – it will take healthy bodies and sharp minds. i have partnered with Got Milk to help encourage kids to drink more milk! drinking milk will strengthen bones and build muscles to help them to grow strong for their future! below is a goal sheet to help you talk with your kids about what they want to be when they grow up! help your children recognize the importance of eating healthy, drinking milk, and regular physical activity as well as the impact it can have on their goals in life. created by the talented Sunny by Design, this printable will help encourage your kids to drink milk and fuel their bodies to achieve their dreams in the future!
